Sweetest Revenge Is To Be Happy

Marlo Scott in conversation with Holy Names University     President William Hynes.

I love a good story, especially when it has a happy ending.  Marlo Scott shared her story at my alma mater, Holy Names University, Oakland, as part of the James Durbin Entrepreneurship Speaker Series.   Marlo worked at some of New York City’s largest media companies and then got laid off three separate times.  She grew tired of what she called corporate toxicity.  “I had the good fortune of working for poor management because that inspired me how not to be and what not to want out of life.”  Marlo is a firm believer that the safest bet is on oneself.  Five years ago she launched into life as an entrepreneur and opened Sweet Revenge, New York City’s only cupcake, beer and wine bar.   She’s been featured on the Martha Stewart Show, Entrepreneur Magazine, and Chase ads.  I believe her business success comes from a passion for life and her philosophy of creating joy along the way.  “The sweetest revenge,” said Marlo “is just to be happy.”
